Kids Snowboard Guide

Welcome to our snowboard guide for kids. Here we try to explain the things to consider when buying snowboards for children. When buying a snowboard, there are two main factors which are crucial to determine which snowboard will fit them best. How tall the child is and how much they weigh. These two points will contribute towards their progression, development and enjoyment on the mountain. Because that's exactly what snowboarding is all about, having fun is the priority!

Snowboard

The general rule of thumb for what length to buy for your child is that the board should end somewhere between the neck and eyes.

If you choose a snowboard that is too long, it will be difficult for them to turn and it will feel big and clumsy under their feet. If you choose a board that is too short, there is a great risk that the toes or heels will overhang the edges, and that the child will grow out of the board too quickly.

Weight is also something you need to consider in combination with their height. In some cases, the child has grown a lot in height but still weighs very little, in other cases the opposite is possible. This affects the flex of the board. You do not want a board that is too stiff and difficult for them to handle, but also not a board that is too soft and gives way when they make their first real turns.

Below we have created a table to help you choose the right snowboard for your child.

Snowboard legth - Kids:

1. Check height and weight.
2. Locate the length corresponding to the correct size in the table below.
3. If the child is between the lengths in the table then match their weight instead. If the child is light for his or her height, then choose the shorter length your child is closest to. If instead it is the opposite and your child weighs more for their height, then choose the longer length of board.

- Your child makes small turns and rarely goes fast.

Why choose a longer snowboard for your child?

Bindings
When buying snowboard bindings for children, you should remember that the bindings must fit the child's shoe size and the mounting holes on the bindings must fit the insert holes on the snowboard. Usually snowboards and bindings for children are sold together in complete in packages to ensure that they are compatible with each other. When you buy a complete snowboard package from us, we will make sure that the bindings will always fit the board. But be sure to check that the size of the binding fits the child’s boots.

Boots
When buying snowboard boots for children, it is important to remember that boots are the most important piece of snowboarding equipment they need. The boot must fit well on the foot, and should not squeeze or hurt when standing or when lacing them up. If they cause any discomfort, the child has the wrong boots. When it comes to size it is important that they have correct heel grip. Any lifting movement of their heels within the boot will result in difficulty when learning to turn. Comfortable and correctly fitted boots will help the child get the most enjoyment out of their snowboarding experiences.

How do you measure what boot size the child should have?
Measure the child's foot with a ruler or similar on the floor. Then choose a boot size that is at least a full centimeter larger.
