Capita Snowboards was founded in 2000 by professional snowboarders Jason Brown and Blue Montgomery. It all started in a small garage in Seattle, Washington with friends Dustin Krysak and Corey Smith.
Jason and Blue wanted to offer something new and different to the snowboarding market that had everything to do with snowboarding and sure enough, they succeeded! It didn't take long before Capita had managed to get the very best snowboarders and their boards became known all over the world for their different designs.
Of course, it hasn't always been easy. Many sleepless nights, long working days and close to bankruptcy, Capita Snowboards has always managed to go through every storm and today they are one of the biggest snowboard brands in the world.
Capita Snowboards stands for quality, design and great environmental thinking through their products. Several boards have won awards over the years for sustainable and recycled materials.
The Capita Mothership
In 2016, Capita completed their new factory "The Capita Mothership" in Austria. The Capita Mothership is the most high-tech and advanced snowboard factory in the world. The factory was awarded the "Energy Globe Award" for their commitment to renewable energy in their factory and the use of recycled materials.
Mothership itself generates the power needed to produce their snowboards using an internal energy system (NH3) using solar panels. The energy systems at Capita are in constant focus to constantly find new sustainable solutions. Capita is already at the forefront of everything from snowboard presses to the light switches powered by their own energy system.
Capita has even thought out where the Mothership should be located to minimize carbon emissions in the form of minimized distances for the transports to travel. The factory is in Austria's southern border area, which benefits local companies, and the time to bring home raw materials is a maximum of five hours.
48% of the raw materials come from Germany, Slovenia and Italy and 50% come from Austria. Not bad!
Since Mothership opened in 2016, Capita has received several awards, both for the design of their snowboards and the way they think about the environment and sustainability
